A gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, said that, should he, within two years, fail to address the lingering security challenges, according to the constitutional powers conferred on the office of the state governor, he will resign his position of governor if elected.
Senator Marafa made the declaration on Wednesday while responding to questions fielded by a team of Journalists in Gusau during consultations with stakeholders from across the state in preparations for participation in the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.
Marafa further noted that he will ensure that the federal government pay its contributions towards restoration of peace in the state, adding that, “I will do my own at the state level to complement the federal government’s efforts in the fight against security challenges, but if after two years, the narrations remain the same, I will resign my position as governor of the state”.
“I was the only Senator when I was there representing Zamfara State, that always put pressure on the National Assembly and the federal government about the disturbing insecurity in my state; my position on that had become popular nationwide then”, Marafa has recalled.
He disclosed reasons that informed the idea of joining the gubernatorial race under the NDC, amongst which he cited efforts to revive the collapsing economy of the state as the second issue to be attended to after liberating the state from the security challenges.
“I have many things in my blueprint that need to be checked and addressed for the state to become a haven where investors can be comfortable considering Zamfara as a second home for investment. I will open up my intentions right from the day I am sworn in to the good people of the state”, Senator Marafa has stressed.
