The Continental American Football League of Africa (CAFL) (Rugby) is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of next year in Nigeria in the first quarter of 2027.
The Founder and Commissioner of CAFL, Mr. Muhammad El Muhammad, disclosed this while briefing sports writers in Makurdi, the state capital.
Muhammad said beginning of the football simultaneously in 15 Nigerian cities is part of its expansion programme aimed at discovering and developing sporting talents across the country.
He announced the 16 cities to include: Makurdi, Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Abuja, Lafia, Lokoja, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Enugu, Owerri, Asaba, Warri, Port Harcourt and Uyo.
Muhammad said CAFL of Africa is poised to change the narrative in sports business and management as it brings the excitement of professional American football to millions of Nigerian fans and beyond.
He announced that the CAFL has the potential to unite entities, youth, and demographics in Africa, characterized by a rich tapestry of cultures and a burgeoning youth population.
“Similar to American football, CAFL is a sport that thrives on strategy and physicality, appealing to both players and spectators. The establishment of CAFL not only aims to create a competitive league but also seeks to foster a sense of community and national pride among its supporters.
Mr. Muhammad stated that CAFL presents an exciting opportunity for Nigerian athletes to showcase their talents on a global stage.
“With many young Africans already showing interest in the sport, the league can serve as a platform for local talent to flourish. By providing professional training and development, CAFL will nurture homegrown athletes who can compete at the highest levels, ultimately inspiring the next generation to take up the sport.”
